Course Description

The purpose of this training module is to familiarize the Principal Investigator (PI) and lab personnel with the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules. The NIH Guidelines training will answer the following questions:

  1. Do the NIH Guidelines apply to my research project? (Section I)
  2. How should I perform a risk assessment and determine the appropriate containment condition for my experiment? (Section II)
  3. Which committees must review my experiment? (Section III)
  4. If I am a Principal Investigator, what are my responsibilities to comply with NIH Guidelines? (Section IV)
